NO PREP Need a Lab Quick! -- Porosity of Soil (needs only dirt, water, cups)
This is a simple lab/worksheet that measures porosity of soil. The advantage? The materials are free and easy to obtain. All you need is dirt, some measureable containers (like a beakers or measuring cups), and water.
The initial discussion question is about the advantage that soil has over human made pavement when it comes to flooding or runoff. This lab would be a good kickstart to a lesson about flooding, permeable pavers, and other human solutions to flooding.
